What The Hell Do I Write About?
As I sat down to write my post for Day 8 of Effy Wild’s Artfully Wild Blog Along, a few ideas popped into my head. As I pondered, I began to think that the first two ideas that came to mind felt too “heavy” for my mood tonight. I set them aside and tried to think of a topic that felt ridiculously simplistic. Then it hit me.
What is your blogging process?
I have a typical process I was following when I first began this blog along. After meditating and pulling oracle cards, an idea or theme would come to me and I would write my blog post in the morning. I’m much more of a morning person and this way I could be sure to get my post finished for the day. A couple of factors contributed to my shifting to writing in the evenings. I had a few nights of poor sleep, with early work calls and opted to sleep in a bit and write at the end of the day. It then turned into a “Gee, I’m tired, too busy, etc. to write the post”. Then the game of back and forth would ensue. Historically, I have sworn to myself that I would write on a regular basis and then my self-doubt would kick in and I would question whether I really had anything important to say. This time around, I am practicing releasing the bullshit stories and all of the what ifs. I’m going to stop making excuses and write on an at least semi-regular basis.
Since I’ve been writing in the evenings, an idea would come to me pretty much as I sat down to write. Tonight was different and I felt like I was trying too hard. When I took the step back and focused on my breathing for a few moments, it came to me. Write about the process! I adore process! It makes my Libra Sun, Cap Moon, Virgo Ascendant little heart happy.
All of that being said, my ideal process is to write early in the morning before the sun comes up. I love lighting a candle, diffusing my favorite Young Living Oil, burning a stick of Frankincense incense and with my puppy in my lap, write. I’m committing to practice discipline with my writing regardless of the outward circumstances.
I would love to hear about your writing/blogging process.
